Hello,
I have taken a look at the latest development snapshot release notes here:
http://development.openoffice.org/releases/3.0.m14_snapshot.html
and as far as I can tell these are the updates we should apply to the Writer
user guide:
1) multipage zoom
Although in terms of functionality it is a very straightforward new feature
to document it is a bit of a pain since in theory we should re-take all the
screenshots of the workarea and there may be many in the various chapters.
2) Notes
The new notes in Writer look very good and are a vast improvement over the
current ones. Although there are still many features that need to be added
it makes sense to start documenting and showing a couple of screenshots.
3) Language selection
Language selection is now possible without having to use styles. A new
submenu allows to change the language in the document either for the
selected text, for the current paragraph or for all the text in the
document.
4) Cross referencing numbered items and headings
This is probably the feature requires the most effor, but it is also the
most useful as we heavily xreference headings in our guides and (at least as
far as I am concerned) I often wanted to reference a specific numbered item
in a guided procedure.
5) Tools > Options > load/save: odf version option
An option has been added to allow the user to select the desired ODF
version. If I got it right OOo 3.0 will use ODF 1.2 while currently ODF 1.1
is used. This may cause troubles if you try to open a document saved with
OOo 3.0 (ODF 1.2) in earlier versions of OOo as some features may not be
supported. I am not sure what the issues may be for "normal" users.
If someone wants to cover any of these items please let the list know so
that we do not end up duplicating the work (the last thing we need given the
resources available :-) ).
Cheers,
Michele
I'll set up a list on the forum of who's doing what, such as maintenance
editors and the like. But with the dearth of helpers recently, I can
assume that most of those maintainers would be me, myself, and I for the
Writer Guide and the others too, I betcha. Anyway, I'll set up a list
where others can volunteer for whatever they want to take on for any of
the guides.
