Oops! I've been making changes to that chapter today, too. I guess the best thing is for me to combined your version and mine, and resubmit it.
BTW, I'm working on Chapter 2 of the Writer Guide right now and expect to have a new version ready to upload tomorrow sometime. (It has a lot in common with Ch2 of Getting Started, so I'm amending both of them at the same time.)

Personally I think the chapter is in a good shape: it covers some of the most prominent new functionalities of OOo3.0 with the exception of the start screen (which, on the other hand, is not Writer-specific). [...] In case you want to become the maintainer of the chapter, just download it, add your name in the feedback section, accept/reject the changes as you deem appropriate and upload the file in the drafts folder. Optionally you can remove the old version so that the draft folder contains only the "state of the art" for each chapter of the guide.
