You picked up some really good errors that I had missed. Thank you! I'll

fix those, and also check the items you queried.

I didn't spot any comments in the copy of Chapter 1 that you uploaded.
Have I missed something?

I did not keep a copy of the chapter after I uploaded it and am not sure whether there were changes. I know that I didn't remember about "Notes" until I started the next one. I'll get with the program one of these days!

BTW, did you two notice any improvements in the master-document handling
with version 3? I meant to start in on copyediting those GS/WG files
last Wednesday, but a UK client of mine wanted me to consider doing a
300-page equivalent cleanup of part of his Web site, involving much of
the material on a print version of 500+ page book on CCNA (Cisco
networking) he had me format and copyedit a few weeks ago. It cannot use
CSS, though, so its formatting isn't so flexible...

Anyway, OOo master documents in the past needed some additional useful information on some small points, informing the user just what could or should be done. That could be major for some, but only of minor meaning for a novice user. Did we include any of the known kludges about cross referencing across external subdocuments? That's one major issue for OOo

to overcome so that it could effectively compete with FrameMaker in that

regard, although InDesign doesn't do those types of cross references either (or any xrefs, for that matter).

For what it's worth, I switched from a user account on my Vista Ultimate

here to a strictly administer account, in case that affects application installation and running and other file access issues. One bitch about Vista is the added security "features" in its user accounts that removes

many former routine functions away from a typical user. So, I'll see if that improves how OOo installs or runs here. So far, m5 worked fine while running on the regular user account. But, I have to reconfigure most of my older usage--spam filters, email accounts, etc.

I am very much a novice user of OOo, and know next to nothing about
master-document handling, although I want to learn. Part of my
motivation for doing the reviewing is to learn more about OOo. Which
stems from a total frustration with MS Word and Publisher that I
developed while formatting a couple of books for our local art center.
I am still running Windows XP and plan for my next move to be to Linux.
When I can find the time to make the move!

I really appreciate the opportunity to be of some use while I'm trying
to learn!

There is an add-on for Publisher that OOo can use. I occasionally get some Publisher work that clients want put on another format. So now there's another avenue for working with Publisher on OOo, but I got MSO Professional 2007 anyways.

Maybe, I should reinstall Linux here, but I really don't need it. If I did, it would become another distraction for a few weeks.

When I started using OOo heavily some two/three years ago, I copyedited their docs.
