Hi Clayton I think it depends on which school you went to. At least that's the case over here. There's so much concentration on testing the kids that the actual teaching of the language and grammar has gone out of the window. Hence why other countries now correct the English on their English! Luckily I went to a better than average school - even if it is known as Liverpool's answer to St Trinians!
