1) I remember arguing against Java using the very same arguments.
2) Holding up limitations of the CLR such as:
"Implementation Inheritance. The CLS only supports single,
static inheritance."
as an argument for it not being language-neutral, and then saying:
"Java advocates have long pointed that the JVM doesn't force
users to the Java language."
when Java only supports single, static inheritance, is a bit too
weak advocacy for me.
