Oh, and i dont use any special X setup.  I am running in 1024x768 res 16bpp X 
session with 640x480 as another viable resolution.  Stretching to fullscreen 
in sdl's fullscreen mode (which uses your hardware accelled opengl libs) uses 
no extra cpu and looks fine.    Decoding movies and displaying them is mostly 
cpu directed and towards the decoding part.  Not towards the displaying part. 
 If anything i would look at compiler directives used to compile avifile and 
see if maybe it's not optimizing fully.   even optimized binaries are 
questioned as to how much better they are than non-optimized so the blame 
lies somewhere in the version you're using of avifile and what movie you're 
testing on and how well your system is tuned and what kind of system it is.   
 OK, i'm rambling now.     From what i saw though, my avifile as well as it 
should so i'm content.   You people who are getting 25MB/s with cpu's almost 
as fast or faster seem to be having a problem with it.   That's just really 
low.   I'd expect that from a pii or piii
