There's a reason for avifile being a CVS only development version...
But I have to admit that some kind of release in the meantime would
have been nice. It needn't be bug-free or feature-complete, after all,
there's still a leading zero in the version number... given the
improvements between 0.53-5 and 0.6-pre you have to wonder what 1.0
might be like :)

Works most of the time for me. Even on RH 7.1 with gcc 2.96...
