I applied the patch and recorded a 2h 'movie' of a home shopping
network. Even after 2 hours of mind-numbing chattering they were still
going at it lip-sync. So it seems to work very well, thanks for your
suggestion.

I've released a new version today (1.10) for those who want to try it.
All the debian/unstable patches have been applied, as well as a few other
little things. It's up for grabs @ http://www.stack.nl/~brama/vcr/

Is anyone up for the task of adding the capture interface to avifile
itself? I'd love to see it implemented (in such a way that future
enhancements don't mess around with the API too often). With my level of
responsiveness and the fact that I didn't even write it I don't consider
myself an ideal candidate. If absolutely no one is up for the task
though, I'll have a go at it (saves time in the long run :)

Bram
