Thanks for the suggestion, I'm guessing the MD2 builder will be a good starting point then. I can make MD2 files in either Blender or Max but they have issues with points slightly distorting and warping the models. Never was able to fix the issue and I tried for weeks. I even taught myself Blender (the interface from hell!) just to try its MD2 exporter, which had the same issue!. I believe (and was told by the programmer of Qtip the md2 exporter for max) that it is an issue with the MD2 file format. So for now Collada is the only option, even though its a load more complex to work with.
I'll keep people informed on my progress :)
