Anyone know how to get alpha on the actual plane in away3DLite?

Adding sprite layer creates:
http://www.aftc.co.uk/development/away3d/Away3DLitePlaneAlpha/

Is it possible to apply alpha to the plane that I am applying AS3DMod to?
Isn't the layer a standard flash sprite?
