I think that your problem may be due to z-fighting. If so, try setting the planes in different render layers and giving the layers a z offset. Sorry, but I can't give you more details because I haven't used away3d 3.6 for a while. Let me know if you don't manage, I'll dig up some code and give you a snippet.
