Sloppy-focus is enabled by default. So repositioning mouse cursor to the center of the screen on screen.focus might unexpectedly shift focus from the auto-focussed client, which makes it undesirable as a default. IMO, it is more preferable to have cursor at the center of the screen, instead of top-left, especially when you are using a big screen (24"). I am in favor of this patch, together with removing sloppy focus as the default. Sloppy-focus is not intuitive. No desktop environment defaults to sloppy focus.
