No you could run ap1 and ap2 side by side since the start of mp2 although it was been more a hack. Now the shift to Apache2 is done and there shouldn't be any API changes any more.
Other than minor namespace revisions I agree. MP2 RC5 should be stable.
And because none of the dev-team-members responded to my mail I'm going the way to setup a subversion repository and a ticketing system on our own server sometime next week.
Since my last posting I've added many things including dependency checking, fixed various bugs, ... but the idea hasn't changed much.
What are my next steps: ======================= * get things working (cache, dependencies) * write tests with Apache::Test-Framework
Kip has written *alot* of tests for the Book, you may want to see if those are applicable for you.
* decision of AxKit-Dev-Team if they like my view on AxKit2 ~ - yes => rename and work on AxKit2 ~ - no => * find better name ~ * Homepage ~ * release on CPAN as a dev-version 0.01_1
This has come up before in the mailing lists. I know that Matt and other's all agree that AxKit2 should be more than simply porting AxKit to MP2, but how much more nobody was quite sure of, and nobody quite had the time to figure it out. Kip, Mike Nachbaur, and others have discussed some of the possibilities of what AxKit 2 should be, and how to fully embrace what mp2 brings to the table (Filters, Perl config directives ...) to best get all the raw speed out that we can.
However life being what it is, nobody (on the Dev team) has gotten a paying job to focus on this. I'm happy you're taking it on.
Again there has been prior discussion of this, a check of the AxKit-Dev maillist archives might be useful for turning up ideas on where to go.* write a compatility layer for custom Apache::AxKit::Language-Modules ~ (the more Language-Modules I know the better the layer gets ;-) at ~ least I need testers * write a compatility layer for custom Apache::AxKit::Providers * port the Language Modules of AxKit * RELEASE AxKit-2.01 or TomKit 1.00 * make things much more customable (configuration of cache, transformer ~ engine (maybe a Apache-filter-based transformer-chain))
I'm not sure anybody has an answer to these two. Threading is particularly wonky right now for any mp2 app from what I've heard (note this is all hearsay).Problems I'm aware of but I have not addressed yet: =================================================== * Threaded-MPM (beside avoid chdir, ...) => Win32 * Win32-Compilance (paths, ...)
