It would be faster; fewer clicks; the filter in the lens is a bit confusing as it has too many app category, some that don't even have apps to filter (default install) and it would help people that are used to the way the gnome 2 menu worked. It wouldn't work exactly like the gnome menu, but it would be similar, something that makes the transition tu unity a bit easier, i think.
