I have heard of the ritual - - - I have never, ever heard of it done that way.  
The mother was a vicious woman.  Let's keep in mind that this book was 
fiction.  
 
I, however, didn't quite understand the end, Christmas Eve at Niagara Falls.  
Didn't quite understand what Manuel did.
