Hi John, My Ivens line starts in Lagoa with my 2nd great-grandfather Joao Ivens. According to birth records of his children, parents are listed as unknown, but that doesn't mean that they're not on another document somewhere else. Oral tradition in our family has always said that the family was orginally from Wales and that Joao's father's name was Thomas, having married his Portuguese housekeeper. I am very familiar with the Ivens research done by other people I've come across online, but my problem right now is that I can't make a link with my great-great grandfather to any of the Ivens Sao Miguel genealogy.
As far as what I have from Bretanha, it appears in my family tree with the marriage of my 7th great-grandfather Manoel de Amaral. He was born in Bretanha before 1716 and was the son of Manoel de Oliveira Cabesseiras and Maria de Benevides. He married Antonia de Almeida (of Rabo de Peixe) on 13 December 1732 in Rabo de Peixe. Later generations are from Rabo de Peixe. Hope this helps! My two primary freguesias are Lagoa (Nossa Senhora do Rosario) and Faja de Cima / Faja de Baixo, where my great- grandparents were born, later immigrating to Providence and East Providence, Rhode Island. From there I have branched out to many other surrounding freguesias and back a few centuries in some cases.
