Hi Matt,

I have several Thomas Ivens in my data base. The Ivens of S. Miguel descend
from William Breakspeare Ivens, born in Swinesbrook, Oxfordshire and Elizabeth
Flora Hickling, born in Ponta Delgada; I'm sure you already have their
lineage, but if you need more, I have their lineage. I have a João Ivens, born
in
1878 in Ponta Delgada, but he is the legitimate child of Thomas Edward Ivens
and
Maria Rocha de Medeiros. Thomas died in 1880 and married twice: first in 1842
to Henriett Carew, of Baltimona Park, Watterford, Ireland, and secondly in S.
Miguel on 31.10.1878 to Maria de Medeiros, of Nosdestinho, daughter of Manuel
Pacheco and Rosa de Medeiros Pacheco, with whom he lived before they married.
I suppose it is possible that he could have had a son João by Maria before
they married, whom they abandoned to an orphanage. They did have a legitimate
son
João born in 1876.

Cabeceiras is not a Bretanha surname. It is prominent in the neighboring
parishes of S. Bárbara and Santo António além Capelas. I do have a Manuel de
Oliveira, son of António Oliveira and Bárbara Tavares Cabral, married in
Bretanha
on 5 Apr 1704 to Maria de Benevides, daughter of António Medeiros and Ana
Martins.

I am sorry I cannot be of more help. Please let me know if you need any other
information.

John
