Hi Dano: * My 6GG, Manoel de Mello, was born in Sao Pedro, Santa Maria. He married Anna da Moura, abt 1687, also in Sao Pedro, Santa Maria. Manoel and Anna moved to Sao Miguel with several children, ca 1700. They settled in Ponta Garca. Your Manoel may be descended from this couple.

I'm trying to "make it fit" but having trouble with the time your Manoel left Santa Maria in 1700 for Sao Miguel and the birth of "my" Manoel's daughter in 1776-ish in Santa Maria. I wonder if any of your Manoel's "several children" returned to Santa Maria and had descendants there? Do you have any names of the "several children" that were born in Santa Maria and moved to Sao Miguel around 1700? I've been told the record for the Sao Pedro church in Santa Maria are sort of in pieces. I haven't ordered them yet. Did you have luck researching that microfilm? Fortunately, I found six children born to Francisca Maria and her husband Pedro Carvalho and their birth certificates might shed light on where exactly Manoel de Mello was from. It just said he was deceased at the time of his daughter's wedding in 1797. Manoel's wife's name was Francisca dos Anjos and that their daughter, Francisca Maria, was baptized in Santa Maria's S. Pedro Church. The Sao Pedro parish from Ponta Delgada where the marriage took place has Indexes, including Obituaries. Maybe this will give me a clue as to where Manoel was born.
