*Dear Shirley: I originally posted about a family from Sao Pedro in Santa Maria. His name is Manoel de Mello (b. abt 1754 died before 1797) X Francisca dos Anjos. I found them through the daughter's marriage certificate. Her name was Francisca Maria, b. abt 1777 in Santa Maria island. However, at some point she moved to Sao Miguel since that's where her wedding took place in the Apostolo Sao Pedro in S. Miguel (to Pedro Carvalho). The marriage certificate states this daughter, Francisca Maria, was baptized in the Santa Maria parish of Sao Pedro.
I had posted the above info in hopes that I might find a connection. I received Email from Dano with info regarding an "earlier" Manoel de Melo X Anna de Moura. He's the one in your line and Cheri as well. If you don't have the string of emails, let me know and I will send them to you.
