Thanks JR

What has me puzzled is that I have another record of a birth giving all
the same names including the paternal grandparents. I just wonder if the
writer of the document forgot to ask the parents and did not bother to
go and ask them.

When I think of it paterno nao sabidos could mean I the writer do not
know and paterno pais incognito would mean strictly the parents are
unknown

In other documents written by this writer around the same time he has
always used the term pais incognito.

That should be "nao sabidos"- do not know. Paternal grandchild of
parents unknown, though it is somewhat awkward to express it in this
manner in English. It should be grandchild of unknown grandparents.
