I am trying to find more info about my maternal grandfather, Gervasio or Gervazo Telles before arriving here. I recently learned that he arrived in Boston on the Bark Amizade in1872 at the age of 12. Passenger list, declared that his home was Calhetas, Sao Miguel. He died in 1913 in California, when my mother was 5 years old. Per his death certificate, his father's name was Francisco.No name given for his mother.
Today I went to the FHC at the Temple in Oakland to look up his Baptismal records. I took along a friend, also doing Azorean Ancestry, with some knowledge of the Portuguese language, but the pages were so bad, we could not make much out of them. Is there anyone on the list who has access to these pages that might be familiar with them enough to find my grandfather on there? I would very much like to go to Sao Miguel in the next few months, but want to know more about him. What was his mother's name? Were there brothers and/or sisters? Was Calhetas the village or the concelho? I want to go to his town and walk where he and his family walked.
