Thank you so much for you help. I've already ordered the LDS mfs for
the Azores but they're taking an awfully long time to
arrive...sometimes almost an year!!!
The only reason I asked  about insisting on the local research  was
because the chief of Biblioteca Publica - to whom I wrote some time
ago (through an Azores Genealogy web site - don't remember which one)
said she would foward my request for a "trained technician in the
Archives" (sic)and that she thought would be very easy to find the
records. Do you understand portuguese? See what she wrote:
"Exma. Senhora
Vou reencaminhar esta mensagem para os serviços administrativos da
BPARPD e para o Sr. Director. Naturalmente vai ser despachada para o
Arquivo, onde será tratada por um técnico superior.
Parece-me que conseguirá sem grande dificuldade as informações que
pretende pois indica o nome, a freguesia e a data. É natural que lhe
perguntem se quer uma fotocópia do registo e deverá ter de pagar algo
por isso."
I apologize for my curiosity but  why would insisting make it worse
for  of everybody?
I'll keep you posted with my findings.
