Hi Wendy, My Maternal grandmother's Parents and Grandparents Santo Reis Magos Fenais da Ajuda.
My grandmother was born in East Cambridge, Her parents are: I) Mary Isabel Pereira (Perry) June 26, 1890 – 1976 USA II) Anibal Couto Bento (Dec 18, 1889 or 1888 – 1956 USA Parents and siblings of Mary Isabel: Manuel Jose Pereira (abt late 1850’s – abt 1949) Maria (Jose Isabelle Souza – Morriera) Pereria (abt 1873- abt1954) Manuel and Maria came to East Cambridge with their children in 1905 for a visit, then again in 1912 and stayed until 1921. Manuel and Maria decided to return to the island with their youngest daughter Angelina. They remained there for the rest of their lives. I have been told that they owned and ran a store in Fenais during the 30's and 40's Below is info on their parents: a) Manuel Jr - I recently learned that his father had the exact same name “Manuel Jose Pereira”. His mother was “Maria Filomena…”. I also have been told that Manuel had a sister Gloria Pereira who married Jose Mello. They also moved to the USA after they were married. b) Maria: I don’t know anything more about her family except I believe her father’s name may have been “Antonio Soares Morriera”, Her mother was referred to as “Maria Julia" Below is information on their children: All born in Fenais D’ Ajuda - Saint Michael and died in the US. 1) Mary Isabel Pereira Bento (mentioned way at the top – my great grandmother) 2) Serafin Medeiros Pereira (Perry) 1891 – 1972 (married: Honrinda Coloura on St. Michael, they traveled there for their wedding…many Colouras there) 3) Celestino Pereira (Perry) 1897 – 1987 (married Alcida lopes in the USA) 4) Angelina Pereira (Perry) 1909 – 1965 (married Angelo “Mori” Moreira on St Michael, they immigrated to the USA in the 1950s) Parents of Anibal Couto Bento: His death records indicates that his father was “Joseph (jose) Bento” and his mother was “Mary Da Ponte”. I was told that Anibal had siblings but that they lived in Brazil and he never had contact with them. The story is that Anibal (Annibale) was a possible stow away…or… was on a whaling ship until he made his way to the USA. His earliest arrival that I know of is a ship record dated about 1912, I can give you the exact date later. I also found a record showing Anibal’s mother: “Maria G. Bento – b. abt 1865” and Anibal’s sister: “Ermalinda b. 1900” visiting him in USA in 1916. Joseph Bento may have deid before 1916 since he didn’t make the trip, just speculation. Maybe you might recognize a connection? Sincerely, David Ellis On Oct 14, 5:22 pm, Wendi Sylvester Shaw <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi, I am new to this group, but not to genealogy.
