My Uncle right now has major health issues that my Aunt is trying to deal
with. She tried to give me what she had, but it was on my Grandmother and
not my Grandfather. They thought I had it because my Dad was with me, but I
went through everything I didn't see any paperwork regarding Marianno. I
thought my Grandmother would had given everything to my Uncle when she came
back here with him in 1951 or 1953. She was going to try and ask my Dad's
cousin, Padre Anton from Ribeira Grande if he could find something, but he's
not well himself being 85 and he is on my father's maternal side. Most of my
father's paternal side has passed over there and only cousins left here who
I haven't seen since I was a child so that isn't helping.

According to my Uncle and my Dad when he was living, it was my grandfather
Antonio Furtado son of Marianno who came to the US, but nothing on Marianno
coming here. He did tell me that only his Aunt Marianna and Uncle Jose
stayed there, but then his father went back and remained till he died in
1945. All their children came here or Canada. He said the parents came in
the early 1900's went back and then some came again 1919/1920.

I know jumping around is hard, but I think it's because it seems cousins
married within the families, so we seem to be all interrelated especially
from the same town, don't you think?

Linda

Hi Linda,

Perhaps there is a connection but right now I am trying to get into the
Estrela records with this family. Once I find the first record it should be
easy to take it back and find a connection. This CCA passport information
confirms that I am looking in the right place.

Have you been able to get any more information about Marianno? I think you
said your aunt an uncle had his marriage certificate that might give us more
information. Also do you have any idea as to when he traveled from the
Acores? Maybe I can get lucky on the CCA website.

Rick,

I've been researching and saw that you have a Ignacio Jose Borges 1732 m.
Maria Therisa Tavares 1734-1762. See attached. Could Maria Therisa Tavares
be a sibling to Jose Tavares? Jose Borges Tavares m. Mariana Francisca and
their child Joao Borges Tavares m. Monica Jacinta de Jesus Ferreira Medeiros
de Paiva dos Santos Faria. My Borges line dropped the Tavares on my mother's
paternal side, but added Giesta to Borges though my mother never used
Giesta, but her brother did.

Could this be a connection to Charlotte as well?

On my de Sousa's line-see attached, the Tavares again was dropped, but both
sides had de Sousa. Caloura was added later to de Sousa on my father's
maternal side, but never brought down Caloura either.

I need to update those lines since I got more information going back to the
1600's.

Hello Charlotte,

I finally have time to do some research and I looked at the Ribeira Grande
records today to try and find your family. I spent most of the time looking
for the birth of a Jose born Feb 22 1879 but came up empty.

What I have found tonight is the passport record of your great grandfather
Jose Tavares Ferreira, the link below should take you to the CCA site and
the record It is image 00000066. From what I was able to read it has a date
of 23 Apr 1881, Jose Tavares Ferreira son of Jose Tavares Ferreira and
Joanna Maria., age 38, married from Ribeira Grande NS Estrela, a stone
mason, wife's name Maria Augusta, age 33, and it looks like Manuel 11 months
Just 3 traveled in the party. It also has the ship Suffok.

When I get back to the FHC I am going to see if I can find the birth of
Manuel.
