I finally have time to do some research and I looked at the Ribeira Grande records today to try and find your family. I spent most of the time looking for the birth of a Jose born Feb 22 1879 but came up empty. What I have found tonight is the passport record of your great grandfather Jose Tavares Ferreira, the link below should take you to the CCA site and the record It is image 00000066. From what I was able to read it has a date of 23 Apr 1881, Jose Tavares Ferreira son of Jose Tavares Ferreira and Joanna Maria., age 38, married from Ribeira Grande NS Estrela, a stone mason, wife's name Maria Augusta, age 33, and it looks like Manuel 11 months Just 3 traveled in the party. It also has the ship Suffok.
