Hi Joyce,

The $20 is a certified copy. Or so I thought. It WAS something like around
$15 or so in euros, plus the cost of conversion from U.S. Dollars (or
Canadian) plus postage. No one has told me that the cost has dropped.
$2.50 euros is about $3.33 USD today. $0.50 euro is $0.67 USD. That's
fantastic that they have slashed the price so much! So many people paid
almost $20 for their records. I know California death and marriages are
about $13 to $15 depending on the record. It varies with the state.
Michigan is the highest I've found so far for obtaining records ($20 - $25
if I remember correctly).

I think their conversion fees there in the Azores must be reasonable. It's
been 4 or 5 years since I've been, but I don't remember the banks taking
that much out to convert my U.S. dollars. But when I went to the bank here
in America with a check for the conference written on Canadian dollars, the
bank wanted $20 out of the check to convert it to U.S. dollars! That's just
crazy!!!

You still have to cover their postage. I don't know at all how much a
Portuguese air mail stamp costs. I think it was about $0.80 for an airmail
stamp that I bought here in America to mail a card to the Azores. I don't
know if it's similar or not to the Portuguese air mail stamp.

Let us know what you find out!
