Hello, My (now) husband's uncles had a MOURA aunt who married a Francis MEDEIROS of Cambridge and Somerville, MA. He was part of a large family. He had Epilepsy and they only had 2 sons. Both the father and one son died before their time. There surviving son has done a little research but does not participate on genealogy-on-line.
Most of the MOURA family (mother and 5 children) arrived from Sao Miguel between 1905 -1910. I've never found out what happened to the father, but I have suspicion that he went to Brooklyn, NY, when his wife and children went to Cambridge, MA. "Elsie" MOURA married ~1922 to Antonio PACHECO who had also arrived from Sao Miguel ~1905. Tony's widow, from 1927 until the 1980's proclaimed that her late husband had no relatives in New England. But a researcher told me 2 years ago that the other PACHECO family in Cambridge, MA, came from the same village near Ponta Delgada. I wasn't able to follow through with this. (I've posted about these families before, so you can check Boards and Lists for my name.) Another sister married Charles PERRY (probably PEREIRA) and lived in Cambridge. One of Rosie's daughters is in a nursing home right now. The 2 brothers married in Cambridge or Somerville (at least in MA), but then "Frank" went to the San Francisco, CA, area, and "Manny" went to Brooklyn, NY. (The 3 sisters all lived in Cambridge into their 80's, and all had been widowed young.)
