Hello Robin,

My Borbas went to Brazil first (in 1815).

Vila Nova (north of the island) is next to Lajes going west on the road. I was
there in May and driving on that road, just before leaving the freguesia of
Lajes, there is a green house with a "Vivenda Borba" sign painted on it. I
stopped and talked to them.

Actually, the name Borba came from the female side as Andreza de Borba married
Christovão Machado on April 14, 1673. His father was called Christovão Machado,
who got the surname from his mother, Bartholeza Machado, married to Melchior
Luiz.
Christovão and Andreza's son was called Manoel Lourenço (Andreza's father was
Lourenço de Freitas) de Borba. From then on every male had a name plus the
'Lourenço de Borba' surname.

I have no idea from where Melchior and Bartholeza came. They were probably born
around 1580.

Doug

Hello Doug and thank you for your reply! Yes, my Borba's are also from
Terceira of Sao Bartolomeu and one line from Dose Ribeiras, Terceira. Even
though I've been to Terceira I would need to look at a map to see where Vila
Nova is located because I don't remember. Where did your Borba's settle in the
US?

When speaking with Adair, I find it extremely hard that with the "few" Borba's
that are in US records that we're not all related from one line down a while
back, but I could be wrong - some being from Terceira and some from Sao Jorge.

Robin Borba Besotes :)
