JOAQUIM DE BETTENCOURT had a son Capitam Comandante JOAQUIM ISIDORO DA
SILVEIRA MACHADO, baptized in Topo, SJ., who was one of my 3G-
grandfathers!!! Thus I was keenly motivated to take a whack at
interpreting your finding.

Joaquim son of Antonio Machado de Azevedo and his wife Maria da
Conceicao natives of the village of this Matriz of Nossa Senhora do
Rosario da Villa Nova do Topo on the island of Sao Jorge, residents in
Ribeira XXX, grandson on the paternal side of Manuel Vieira de Valenca
and his wife Maria Machado and on the maternal side of Pedro de Sousa
and his wife Isabel Silveira, wasborn on the 9th day of the month of
November of the year 1806 and was baptized on the 13th day of the same
month and year in this same Matriz by me João Iso[1] de Bettancourt
XXX. They are Godfather Joaquim Isidoro and his sister D. Marianna
Joaquina de Bettancourt, children of the family of D. Micaela Joaquina
de Bettancourt widow of Capm[2] Bento Jose de Azevedo who lives in
XXX. From which, to be known, I made this document, which I sign. It
was [done] solemnly [by] the Reverend Father Thesoureiro António
Caetano de Sousa. Era ut supra [It was thus as above].

Micaella's granddaughters, Maria Cândida de Noronha, who was my great-
great-grandmother. Perhaps these items can help you to tease out
further details:

granddaughter of Captain-Major Pedro Homem Pimentel de Noronha and his
wife Dona Anna Victorina de Noronha, was born on the third of the
month of March of the year one-thousand-eight-hundred-twenty-six
[1826], was baptized on the twentieth of said month and year by
Reverend Vicar of the referred-to Mother Church Ambrósio Constantino
Pacheco da Silveira. The Godparents were the stated maternal
grandmother [and] her daughter Dona Maria Margarida. From which, to
be known, I, Manuel Joaquim da Silveira, current Beneficiado of the
above-stated Mother Church, made this document, which I sign. Era ut
supra. [It was thus as above.]
