Chris:

My husband also had two brothers that were on the Water Lily in 1853 from
Azores to Australia. They were gold miners in the Crestwick area. They were
teen agers also and through researching, I learned they went with their
father and the father's brother in law. The names were Jacintho Jose de
Lima and Jose Jacintho de Lima. The father was Antonio Jose de Lima and his
brother in law was J. Borges.

That ship arriving in October (I think) was full of people from the Azores,
judging from the Portuguese names. Who knows that our ancestors might have
known and worked together. the Lima's were partners in The Humbug Hill
Sluicing Company. I don't know what happened to the company. Both brothers
returned to the Azores. One of them married an English girl, Charlotte
Staley who had an 8 year old son who had passed away. They were married
less than a year when Charlotte also died and he buried her in the same
site; I have picture of the gravestone. Charlotte was a fruitier and owned
a store on Albert Street. Jacintho advertised sale of the store in the
Crestwick and Clunes Register and Advertiser selling the store and
belongings and returned to the Azores after her death.

Maybe, we will find some connection.

Warm regards,

Maria Elena (Lima)
