Denis

I use PAF (Personal Ancestral File) and in the Preferences you can unclick
the field that says "use Father's last name for child". In this way I can
put in the names as I see fit. Also on the first page of PAF where the
name, birth, death dates are entered, there is a place for AKA (also known
as) and that is where I put the variations. I usually put the most
popular/most used name as my first choice then under the AKA I will list
the others. .I have an Domingos Antonio de Souza who will sometimes be
listed as Domingos Antonio Soares and I list him under Souza with Soares
as the AKA.
For the women with only religious names I do not list a surname at all it
is only Marie de Jesus (all lower case NOT Marie DE JESUS! I also
capitalize my Surnames (also shown in the preferences). So in PAF you have
to type it as Maria de Jesus/ (the slash has to be at the end so that the
whole names does not capitalize. If it was Marie de Jesus de /Azevedo /
the forward slashes indicate the Surname and it will capitalize just the
Azevedo.
