Just for reference, I have been searching forward on my da Rosa
Furtado de Menconça line. My gr gr grandfather (a fisherman from
Velas) died in 1846. He left 7 children, 5 still at home ages 10-15.
Two years later one daughter married, leaving 3 more daughters and my
gr grandfather.

In searching marriages moving forward, I cannot find any of other
children for the next 30 years. I began checking death records for
the next 10 years, and don't find any of them in Velas, nor do I find
births for any but the three daughters who married in Velas.. 7 years
later, my gr grandfather was in New Bedford in 1853-4, working on a
ship - so that explains where he ended up but I'm trying to figure
out where my gr grandmother and the other three daughters may have
gone

Does anyone have ideas about where a woman with children might go if
she does not stay in the town they are living in when her husband
died?

I thought perhaps back to where my gr gr grandmother was from, she was
born in Urzelina, pais incongnito but left on a doorstep of a barber
and his wife who she was raised by. Assuming there was still a
relationship that's possible but I"m not finding them there.. yet
anyway.

any ideas of how to approach this?
