Hello Nancy, I will also being going to Sao Miguel for a couple of days this summer and then on to "my" island of Faial (with day trips to Sao Jorge and Pico). Anyway, I used a guide there recently when I was on a cruise that stopped in Sao Miguel for the day and will use him again when I go back in July. He is very popular on tripadvisor.com and you can find out more about what people have to say about him there. His name is Gary Travassos and he has a website
http://www.azoreantours.com/ You can read all that you would need to know about him and his tours there. He speaks excellent English as he was born in Canada and lived there until he was about 10, when his parents decided to return to Sao Miguel. He is very personable and we had a great day with him....I highly recommend him. He may be busy as he is pretty popular but it is worth a try to contact him. I have not really been to the islands for 15 years and am so excited to go again. Will be taking my oldest son, his wife and their two boys who are 14 and 8.....and have the map of the Azores written on their faces:) They are the only two of my 8 grandsons that really have the "Azorean look".....can't wait for them to go and recognize that they fit right in:) Have a wonderful trip!
