That baptismal date should read MARCH 3 1902, (NOT 1952!). Sorry. JMR

His first marriage to Maria MACHADO took place, in Fall River, Massachusetts, on February 2, 1891. Maria MACHADO NUNES died April 22, 1903, from pulmonary tuberculosis in Fall River, Mass. They had at least three daughters from this union. (I have very little information on Maria MACHADO.) Manoel/Manuel NUNES remarried, on September 24, 1904, to Ermelinda CARREIRO, in Fall River, Mass. This union produced two more children. Manoel/Manuel NUNES died November 3, 1927 in Fall River, Mass. The only son of Manoel/Manuel NUNES and Ermelinda CARREIRO NUNES, Manuel Edward NUNES, was born November 6, 1920 and was baptized three days later at Saint Michael's Catholic Church, Fall River, Mass. The sponsors listed on the Certificate of Baptism were: Caetano Monis FURTADO and Maria do Espirito Santo FURTADO. I've found a passenger list, from 1901, that lists Ermelinda, Caetano FURTADO, and Maria do Espirito Santo but I have not been able to locate any passenger lists that correctly match the Manoel/Manuel NUNES that I have. The lists that have "Manuel or Manoel NUNES" listed are all the wrong ages....either way too old or way too young. There's been a family rumor that the male ancestors worked as fishermen before coming to America so I wonder if Manoel/Manuel was a mariner who arrived as a crew member and decided to stay. I'm also trying to figure out how Ermelinda CARREIRO and Mr. and Mrs. FURTADO are related. The Certificate of Baptism does not mention if they are blood-related. According to the church records at Saint Michael's in Fall River, Massachusetts, Manoel/Manuel NUNES was from Sao Vicente Ferreira, Sao Miguel, Azores, and Ermelinda CARREIRO NUNES was from Arrifes, Sao Miguel, Azores. The records do not indicate where the FURTADOs came from. (Possibly Arrifes, given that they arrived with Ermelinda?) I'm curious about their Azorean origins and the possibility that my friend may still have cousins in the old country.
