Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] PACHECO birth ~1885 Sao Miguel
Hello,
I haven't seriously researched this family in a couple years, but I'm always
thinking about whether I can find additional information. From the recent
postings, I have become curious whether there is a way for me to obtain the
information from a birth-record.
I'm interested in the birth of Antonio Fred PACHECO, born ~1885 in the
village of Sao Roque, which I'm told is just outside of Ponta Delgada.
His parents were Joao PACHECO and Jacintha COSTA, reportedly also born in
the village of Sao Roque. (Mother was also seen as Jacintha de Jesus.)
I've been reading the postings about dual citizen-ship, and my husband's
uncle and his older sister might have a slight interest in that. (They are
in their late 80's, and were born in MA, but their parents were both born
in the Azores, Tony and Elsie Pacheco from Sao Miguel. But, I doubt
very much they know any Portuguese to speak. Tony had arrived as a 20 yr
old and Elsie had arrived as a 12 yr old both ~1905 to MA, marrying in 1912
in Cambridge, MA.
I just found an old posting of mine on the Azores List at www.rootsweb.com
which said I found out a PACHECO man in the Hawaiian Islands had come from
that village of Sao Roque. I never received further information on him.
And, over 4-5 yrs., I have not been able to find out whether "Joe" and
"Jessie?" Pacheco had other children.
My husband and I are now "seniors" and living on Social Security checks, so
I can no longer afford to spend money on my genealogy hobby. But, if the
cost for an Azorean birth-certificate would be under $15 US, I would
consider paying it.

(I don't remember whether I've mentioned it here, but a little over a year
ago my husband suffered a near-fatal "brain aneurysm." He was one of the
lucky ones - as his large one had only leaked. Most people (of any age)
whose aneurysm "burst" do not survive it. And aneurysms within the torso
mostly kill. The surgeon said that aneurysms do run in families, but I
don't know if it is only in the male lines. His mother was Irish.)
