Wow, Debbie!!! My great-uncle John's wife, born Leopoldina Fagundes
in 1881 in California -- daughter of Francisco and Virginia,
immigrants from the Azores, though on which island as yet unknown to
me -- was listed in one of the US Census enumerations with the first
name "Lena," although she later switched to "Pauline." I'm uncertain
where she died, although she's buried in Turlock, and in the 1930
Census her widower and two of their children were all living in Merced
County. Any chance she's the same Leopoldina as yours?

Also, did we already establish our being related? My father's
maternal grandmother was born Isabel T. Jorge in Ponta da Fajã Grande,
Flores, in 1854. I can send you her baptismal info privately, if you
wish.

Katharine.
