For the last several years, Susan Vargas Murphy and I have been copying the
UPEC Membership Records that have been filmed by the Mormon Church. I had
wanted to put these on the Azores GenWeb site but can't seem to get a response
from the UPEC on it. So, instead, I am offering to do lookups for anyone who
want to check to see if their ancestor belonged to one of these councils. We
don't have them all copied yet, but it's a work in progress. The information is
on this page: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~azrwgw/upec_lookup.html

The dates are generally only from approx. 1888-1920 or so but may turn out to
be helpful for anyone who had ancestors living in California in that time frame.

As you will see on the above mentioned page, I have created a Form for lookup
requests and include a set of instructions to make the process go smoother. I
can't accept any requests that do not include the city/council. I just don't
have the time to search through thousands of images for any one person.

Hopefully, this will lead to some of you finding information on your ancestors
that will be helpful in your research. I know I have found several ancestors in
these records for both myself and my husband's ancestors ..... some of which
gave me the only clue I've ever had as to the village they came from on the
Azores.

So, good luck and happy hunting!
Kathy
