In other words your fathers, father (your grandfather), his father (your great grandfather). Then only the Y-DNA test using your brother would show your Azorean Y-DNA if you do the Y-DNA test. You can do only the Family Finder test if you want or any other test by itself there is no requirement to do combined tests. The Family Finder test would cover all your ancestors (Azorean, French, Dutch whatever your mix is. So if you are looking for any Azorean Matches they would be for your great-grandfather's line which is Azorean. The Family Finder test would also look for matches in your other lines (French Dutch or whatever). On the other two tests, what does the Y test show that the MtDNA does not show? [RFP] The Y-DNA test shows your male line (only if you test your brother), your father, his father, his father and so on. The Y-DNA test is useful if you have a geographical location to match with or a consistent surname. The MtDNA test will only show your Mother direct line (your mother, your grandmother, your great-grandmother. The same would apply that it is useful if you have a geographical location, surnames will not help. Last question. I see there are projects that match up surnames. Have you done this & have experience with it?
