The story I have is that his father, who may also have been Francisco, came first to work in the goldfields of California. He wrote his sons to come and 3 of them did. One, my Grandfather Francico, stayed in California and the other two went to the East Coast. I have no information on them. My Grandfather was from the village of Lages, Pico. His wife was Catarina Xavier, from Silveira, Pico. I do have information of relative on my grandmother's side but nothing about my grandfather's side. Could his middle name, Vieira, be a clue. He gave that name to all his sons as their middle name. Around 1922 he and Florence returned to the Azores and lived in Feteira for a time and in Rabo de Peixe (where Ventura owned propety which he sold) and in 1948 they returned to the states to California under the name of Melo. Also, he had a brother Joseph who lived on Terceira Island at the time of Ventura's death in 1954. Anyone recognize either one of them? Any help appreciated.
