Hi, John Raposa!
I have Bensabat and Amzalac in my Ancestry. I found my info in Abaccasas' (spelled wrong) volumes I borrowed from libraries. My ancestors were also Moroccan Jews who moved to Terceira. I'm assuming the book you read is in Portuguese? (I only sat in a Portuguese class in college for one semester.) What is the name of the book and how do I find it? I was thrilled to read your email to the group!

For those with Moroccan-Jewish roots in the Azores:

I recently finished reading a biography of King Manuel II, Portugal`s last king. (Reis de Portugal: D. Manuel II, Maria Cândida Proença,Círculo de Leitores e Centro de Estudos dos Povos e Culturas de Expressão Portuguesas, Temas e Debates, Rio de Moura: 2008). D.Manuel was a historian and bibliophile and wrote 3 volumes on Portuguese books from the 16th century. He worked with Dr. Moisés Bensabat Amzalac, a London-based expert on Hebrew literature. (p. 296, "D. Manuel II Historiador e Bibliográfica"). It is likely that Prof Bensabat-Amzalac was probably closely related to the Bensabats in the Azores.

Regards,

John Miranda Raposo
