It all depends. Men left with small children generally remarried in about a
year unless his mother or unmarried or widowed childless sister was living in
the house. After all, how does a man with 5 little kids go out into the fields
to work and still take care of his children? Some men married in much less
time; others took longer, etc.

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Mourning period

If a married person died say in the 1800's was there a set length of time the
surviving spouse mourned before they remarried? I ask this because my paternal
ggg grandmother died sometime after giving birth to my gg grandmother in 1852.
