Yes, always test the person from the oldest generation.
But if you and your siblings were all who are still alive, then any of your generation are going to be relatively the same. Of course, you are not the exact same as your siblings. One of you might have inherited different DNA from your parents. If you figure that you get 50% of your DNA from each parent, you can flip that around and say you lose half the DNA from each of your parents. So what you lose might not have been lost by one of your siblings. I hope that makes sense.
In the results from the Family Finder test, which is certainly the one I recommend and what most people start with these days, your DNA matches could vary from one of your siblings. I didn't do it and might never, but if one of my siblings were to be tested, it is possible they might have matches that I don't have due to what DNA each of us has inherited.
I do know that what my father shows as a match is always more than I show. For his side of my ancestry, what he shows is always "stronger" than what I show.

I'm interested in doing both lines. Both of my parents are deceased. Do I understand correctly that the testee should be the oldest person you can find? For example, on my mother's side I could do her sister who is 89 yrs. old and on my father's side I could do my brother who is 70 yrs. old? Thank you so much for your time.
