I am working on my mother's family tree. Not finding a lot of clues, but not really sure how or where to look. Building a tree on Ancestry.com but the pickings are slim and confusing at best. Hoping to locate someone with same ancestors to work on tree together, or someone with knowledge on how to find the correct ancestors.
My Joseph Medeiros Cabral stowed away on a ship in 1901 and arrived possibly in Boston or nearby port. He married Mary Agnes Perry 30 Nov 1909 in Westport, MA. His parents are listed on the document as John M and Barbara Bettencourt. I would guess that John was supposed to be Jaos but I can't be sure at this point. We know for a fact that they were from Urzelina, Sao Jorge. My mother's family used to mail back clothes, money and cards to the family there.
