Hi, I'm new to the group and have been researching my Azores roots for about 1 year. I recently had a wonderful breakthrough in locating my great grandfathers baptism record,Jorge Costa Nunes, Candelaria, Pico 1885-1960, on the Cutlura Governo dos Acores website. After seeing the names of his parents,
Manuel Garcia Nunes and Rosa Marianna Clara and the names of his Grandparents, Paternal- Manuel da Costa Nunes and Francisca Ignacia, Maternal - Manuel Goncalves De Sousa and Marianna Clara A thought came to my mind, How are last names passed down in Azorean Culture? Is there a specific tradition or rule that is always followed? or no tradition at all? The thought crossed my mind as I noticed Jorge having the same last names as his fathers father. I would love it if someone could provide some insight on this subject or even point me in the direction of where I can read about it. Sorry if this is a basic question, please be gentle if it is :) Thank you!
