Hi Julie, Not sure what you mean by a line can't be traced "that" way.
1) Your strict female line would be your mother's mother's mother's mother...all women all the way back ending with Sarah b. 1803. If you have a man inserted there, it's not your STRICT female line. 2) Let's say Sarah, b. 1803 is a Smith. You have a Smith descendant whose father's father's father's father is Sarah's brother, so he carries the surname Smith. If you tested him, you would get his "Smith" line. Most Jewish men carry J1 or the J2 haplogroup. There are a few R1b Jews too. They have a project for them as well :) 3) Mixed line?? Do you mean something like if you tested yourself on Family Finder, you'd get both lines (as well as your Portuguese and any other lineage that you have)? That would be a broad overview. It sounds to me (from your email) as if you need a more narrow focus (trying to prove the Jewish) so you'd want the YDNA test from # 2 above. Hope this helps!
