For baptismal record of Maria on the right hand page (number 146) On the eight line from the bottom: I'm having a hard time deciphering the occupation of the godfather- it says
Foi padrinho Domingos Perreira Machado, single "escreventes" (?) scribe(?) Was he a writer? I could not figure the rest of the sentence. I'm very curious about this godfather named Domingo's. if this Domingo's was able to read and write; If he was educated, it could be a key in the education received by my husbands grandfather, Domingo's Moniz Machado. I believe someone must have recognized that he had potential and as the story goes, he was raised by the Jesuits in Boston. Domingo's Moniz is the older brother of Maria, the one on the baptismal record.
