Santa Maria is a separate island. There is researcher named Danny Bertao, who is very good and traced his ancestry back to the earliest records of Terceira. He had Curvello ancestors from Sao Bartholomeu and he could not find the connection back to Santa Maria. See if you can find his email. I have since lost it. When the vital records ended, that is where researchers like Rodrigues would go to the property records and wills. It is a lot of painstaking work and most not only do not do it, but are unable to because of the need to to be fluent in Portuguese writing. Not to mention learning the paleology of old Portuguese records. and words. Canto and Rodrigues and a few others were great Azorean researchers, almost like historians that deserve our respect.
