The biggest problem I run into is in the choir with sheet music. To be legal
we cannot use copies for the choir members that do not have a purchased copy
of the music. This is because the sheet music is still under copyright and
for each person that performs (sings) in the choir the royalty is paid
through the purchase of the music.

As far as genealogical works I have many copies of pages from various books
which I made over the years. It is helpful to have pages when I add sources
to the information I have and to make sure I have the information correct.
Some information is just too long to spend hours hand copying at a library
and then take it home and try to read.

I do not chime in too often, but this article from "Legal Genealogists" is
not fully correct. The large "library" does have scanners, with copyright
notices posted next to them.

As a genealogist by degree (BA), there is a % of a copyrighted book that can
be copied. I am away from my information right now, but if memory serves me
right it is about 20% of a book may be copied.

It is not a problem to copy a few pages of a book, so do not panic if you
have made copies.

Hi All,

This is worth knowing about something to consider when we start making
copies.
