When dealing with census records, people only drill down to the county
level.  The rest is meaningless for the audience.  Besides, some of those
census tract names change!

You're going to have to do as many things as you can in the link that I
provided to my how to.  You need your island that he came from and what you
really need is the freguesia.  Manuel Faria is common.  It would be the
same as if someone contacted you and asked for help in finding John
Williams in America.

It is odd that the the "M" for married is crossed off on both Emma and her
son Lawrence on the 1940 census.  And odd that Lawrence is in charge of his
2 kids.  You need to chase both Emma and Lawrence around to figure out if
they are divorced, separated, or widowed.
