I can explain some of that. Lawrence's wife Ruth deserted the family 
sometime after my mother and her twin (Doris and Deloris) were born in 
1933, and 1940 when they were all living with Emma, Lawrence's mother. 
Lawrence enlisted in the military in 1942, so the girls stayed with their 
grandmother Emma.
